Type 55 Polaroids

I traded in about four used Nikon lenses about a month ago (I don’t shoot Nikon anymore) they were just sitting around collecting dust so I went over to the Camera Trader and exchanged my lenses for a 4×5 Speed Graphic Camera. It is an old press camera from the 50’s that shoots a 4inch by 5inch negative. It is much slower than what I am used to but it has a beautiful look to it and I can’t wait to use to make more portraits of my friends.

This is Sean I went to high school with Sean and we also played soccer for the Little Bombers back in elementary school.

This is Joe I another long time high school friend I am not using a light meter so sometimes my exposures are a little off. This photo by most standards is probably too dark but I think it has a great feel to it.

This the front of Joe he wanted a picture of his tattoos so I just let is face go totally out of focus. I love this photo.

This is in Joe’s basement at his aparment building. I love using this camera!

Paulina and Isaac

I photographed this wedding with Julie last weekend in Crested Butte. I had never been to Crested Butte before it is a cute little mountain town where everyone has a town cruiser. It has great feel to it and everyone was really nice. Again I spent the day mostly with the groom Isaac. And he was about as easy going as a groom could get everything was “great” and “awesome” and he was totally into the picture making/taking process which made the whole day a lot of fun.

Bryan and Kara

My how the time flies! I photographed this wedding of Bryan and Kara at the end of May as a second photographer for Julie Harris. I love working with Julie she really makes the wedding a fun time not only for me but for her clients. I had never met Kara face to face before but had corresponded through email and I have seen lots of her pictures. Kara is a photojournalist like me and worked at the Glenwood Post Independent a newspaper owned by Colorado Mountain News Media who also owned the Vail Daily. Kara left the newspaper about the same time I did and I think she is just as happy to be out of the newspaper business as much as I am. I spent the pre ceremony festivities with Kara’s groom Bryan. Bryan is a great guy and definitely someone I could see my self hanging out with. I wish these guys the best of luck in life and hopefully we will run into each other again.

Sometimes I got the feeling that Bryan’s mom was more nervous than Brian was.

This is my favorite photo from the day maybe its not as telling as I think but when I look at I can feel the nervous energy as the ceremony is about to begin.

Kara’s Dad was getting a little emotional before the ceremony as well.

Teva Mountain Games Day 4

By the fourth day I was a little tired and wasn’t too excited about my assignments I got some nice moments but I feel like I had to be pretty straight forward with my coverage. I really hope I get the opportunity to cover this event next year with Shane and Bret it was blast and it proved that there is life after the Vail Daily.

Teva Mountain Games Day 3

This is a big post around five of my favorite images from each event that I shot…the first event began at 8am and was the first round of the flyfishing competition. This first event took place on grass rather than water making it a bit of a challenge to make some interesting pictures, but considering what it was I feel like I turned lemons into lemonade. The next event was a mountain bike race. This event made me realize how out of shape I was, the competitors had to do four laps and I needed every lap to try and get different images. From the bike race I covered the finals of the bouldering competition then had to go over to the aceyalone concert and get photos of that. It was easily 12 hours of shooting and I was tired afterward but I was happy overall with the images from today.

Teva Mountain Games Day 2

So I didn’t keep up with the blog while at the Teva Mountain Games like I wanted to. It was a really busy week lots of events and long hours. Early mornings up at about 6a.m. and to bed around midnight. But it was a lot of fun to work with Shane and Bret again they are both really good photographers and really good friends. The second day I photographed the dog jumping competition and rock climbing.

Teva Mountain Games Day 1

It has been a while since my last post. I moved to Denver last Friday then turned around and drove back up to Vail to cover the Teva Mountain Games. Today was the first day of the Mountain Games. I have photographed this event for several years while I was a staff photographer for the Vail Daily. But this year my friend Shane Macomber was able to hire me on as another photographer to help him cover the four day event. Today’s event was the Homestake Creek Race and it kicks off the Mountain Games every year. These are some of my favorite images from today I hope I can keep up with the blog updates because the next three days will be filled with lots of photo making action.
